The Eighth Episcopal District of
The African Methodist Episcopal Church

Officially known as the Annual Conferences of Mississippi and Louisiana, the Eighth Episcopal District is home to more than two hundred congregations dating back to the mid-1800s.

The District headquarters were relocated to Jackson, MS, in 2008 after the headquarters building and Episcopal residence in New Orleans sustained irreparable damage during Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to the headquarters in Jackson, MS, the District has a 100-acre farm in Mound Bayou, MS, in the Mississippi Delta, which is one of the oldest self-reliant, autonomous, all-black communities in the United States.

Bonner - Campell College

The    Bonner-Campbell  College story begins with the founding of  Campbell  College by Bishop    Jabez  P.  Campbell,  the eighth Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.   In 1887,  Bishop    Jabez  P.  Campbell established Campbell College in two locations:  Bethel AMEC  (Friars Point, MS) and Bethel    AMEC  (Vicksburg,    MS).    The college was established  22  years after freedom was won,   “without the aid of    Whites”   (Felder, p. 200).   By 1890, the college was located in Bethel (Vicksburg), and by 1898, the new location was established in Jackson, MS, adjacent to Jackson State College.   The school was named for founder Jabez P.  Campbell    (8th Bishop of the AME    Church and    1st President of the College).

Our Team.

GR8T things don’t just happen—they are the result of intentional effort, faithful leadership, and a community of praying believers working together in unity. Under the leadership of our Bishop, Episcopal Supervisor, Presiding Elders, Component Leaders, and a faithful God, we pursue excellence in all we do—serving as shepherds of God’s people, good stewards over God’s resources, and committed workers in the unfolding of God’s divine plan. It takes visionaries who lead with purpose, intercessors who believe in the power of prayer, and, above all, the supernatural impartation of God to breathe life into what we could never accomplish on our own. When human faithfulness meets divine favor, the extraordinary becomes possible.
